Deuteronomy 15:9

At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave: So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates. The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
